Being a game addict for the past 15 years of my life, I've been really sheltered and lazy. I've been sitting down most of my life and haven't exercised much at all. But being a US Navy Corpsman really opened up my eyes to things that I should have done. But it's never too late to change your life so you can live your life to the fullest.
It's a bit long I know, but I wanted to share some insights from being a healthcare worker and a medical laboratory technician.
I really hope you will find something here that will interest you and take some advice to help you live a better life

Working Out
Why? I've been fine my whole life without lifting a single weight or running at all! Yes, those were my thoughts when I was 16-ish. But your body becomes complacent after 20-ish (which is also why the legal drinking age is 21 in the United States). What does that have to do with it? Your body will only work as hard as it needs to.
Pfft, I can sprint. I'll be fine.
Sure thing, but your body won't be able to keep up by doing just small exercises here and there. Especially as you get older, your body breaks down over time. Give your body a running start while you're still young so nothing can slow you down when you age up irl.
What I've been doing nowadays is working out 3 times a week for one hour doing either exercises or a 30-minute sustained run. It really is just 30 minutes. Or if you don't want to go outside, at least do 10 pushups, situps and jumping jacks to keep the blood flowing.
Sweating
Ew.. gross you're sweating! Yeah, it can be and can be stinky too. But most of the time, the odors you encounter are result of bacteria being processed by your body because it doesn't want it there. Sure, it feel gross to sweat but it's our body's natural mechanism to sweat. We sweat because we overheat but also what that sweat does is purify your skin. How? Simply think of it doing the same thing as going pee, there's a lot of toxins held in your skin and sweat is peeing it out. The more often you sweat, the less stinky it becomes because your body will be rid of most the bacteria that's been cooped up in your skin.
Odor
Sweat, feces, urine? If it stinks, most often it means bacteria was in your system. Foul smell is often an indicator of bacterial metabolism meaning your body was trying to break it down and get it out.
Alcohol
I drink, I'm of the age but I always do so in moderation. Why? The liver.
The liver is a very resilient organ that only shows signs of failure when 90% or more of it IS DEAD. Which means, if you abuse alcohol (or even drugs like Tylenol and other NSAIDS) and something's up with your liver it's more often than not, too late. Your liver processes everything that goes into your body which is why it's imperative that you take care of it and don't take its resiliency for granted.
Hydration
Feel like crap? Can't seem to stay awake? It might be because you aren't drinking enough water. You should drink at least 1L of water a day. Simply because water replenishes your fluids, though everyone knows that. But it also helps you replace the waste fluid (urine) with fresh one. All that waste fluid coops up in your body when you don't drink enough water and it slowly poisons you making you feel like crap.
Try to drink enough that your next pee look like lemonade rather than apple juice.
Morning urine will almost always look like apple juice because your kidneys have been processing the same urine for however many hours you've been sleeping.
It is possible to overwhelm your body with water too because it overwhelm and effectively drown the electrolytes in your body.
Hygiene
Most bacteria is spread through the fecal-oral route, meaning at least one person took a shit or wiped their ass and touched all the wonderful doorknobs and door handles. Gross. Meaning that microscopic bacteria that was emanating out that glorious brown hole had failed to be killed with soap and wash down the drain is now travelled along the wonderful route to your food. They can live pretty long on their own but holy shit will they multiply when they find some good host to settle in.
I've worked in a Microbiology lab, and it's my job to grow out these bacteria to identify them. It's amazing how many grow at a temperature similar to that inside your body. But also very scary and it made me paranoid as hell to keep my hands clean as they can be.
Oh and don't walk around or shower barefoot. Sometimes people pee in the shower and it's possible to get fungi from walking around the house barefoot because they grow really easily, spread really easily, and love to latch onto and bury themselves into the skin no matter how well you clean your house. With that said, be sure to wash and scrub your feet. Some people tend to ignore it for some reason and end up with like.. nasty green and brown toes from all the fungi feasting on them.
Sleep
Got a test tomorrow, play Mabi until 10pm, study until midnight. Is sleep more important than studying? I believe it is. Why? Sleep is where your body does all its repairs and maintenance of the cells. When you deprive your body of that, you leave it in a damaged state.
You can't "catch up" on sleep on the weekends because it your body doesn't just repair everything you screwed up during the week, it's an ongoing process. Oversleeping won't help you and does make you feel worse. Do your body a favor and keep it in a happy state by getting that 8 hours a night.
And better yet, get yourself a memory foam pad at least 3 inches thick and 4-pound density so you can truly enjoy your rest.
Breakfast
Not important? Why is it called, "The most important meal of the day?" It simply breaks the fasting you've done while you were asleep. But also eating breakfast is your body's natural alarm clock. It tells your body, "Hey, I need to wake up around this time tomorrow so I can eat." So yes, if you have to wake up early everyday it's important to stuff something in your mouth when you get out of bed.
Diet
Let's get this straight, I'm not trying to sell you anything so my opinions aren't biased. But know that in America (and Canada maybe?), our loving food companies love to genetically modify our food (known as GMO). We are given processed sugar (High Fructose Corn Syrup) that our bodies cannot process and break down. We freakin' eat a 1/2 pound burger with large fries and a "Diet" Coke. And Diet Coke mind you, has artificial sweeteners that are linked to cancer because our bodies cannot break it down. It just doesn't know what to do with all this crap you give it! Do I poop it? Do I pee it? Do I throw it up? And then what happens? It stores it, because it doesn't know what to do and then.. Weight gain.
How does that make sense? Think of it like this: If you're lactose intolerant, your body lacks the "lactase enzyme" which is needed to break milk down into something your body can use as fuel/energy. But if you drink milk in excess, your body won't tolerate it and it's going to push it out either by diarrhea or by vomiting. But your body know what to do with milk because it's a liquid form. But what all these genetically modified crap and artificial sweeteners are, is something that's mixed in your foods and drinks. Your body breaks down the nutrients and takes it away to where your body needs it but then it encounters this GMO or processed crap and it's confused because nothing in your body can break it down to a state where you can use it. So it stores it, frequently in the muscles.
Eating less does a lot more harm than good. How? You are depriving your body of the nutrients it needs to sustain your body's balance. Fats? Cholesterol? Bad? In moderation they are actually good because those fats and cholesterol help your body cells absorb the nutrients it needs.
It doesn't do good to pack on more carbohydrates than you need though and soda/pop is rich in carbs. Although there are diets such as the Atkins that pride itself on living the low carb life. You actually do need carbs for energy, just not in excessive amounts because the body can be overwhelmed.
By the way, I think it's funny that people claim stuff is gluten free when they don't even know what it means. Gluten is a substance that makes yeast rise faster when making bread. So when people advertise like.. meat being gluten free. I'm just like, no shit Sherlock.
Just be aware of what you're eating and be sure to eat a balanced meal to make sure you stay healthy and strong without all this excess waste sitting in your body.
