after the last Dragon Raid I realized a current trend among players... not everyone has the heal skill readily at hand. This is concerning... Now, as a solo player, perhaps you initially just didn't see the value of the skill? Maybe its huge stamina cost for self healing was what killed it for you? Maybe you needed the AP for other more important skills? ...and I can relate, Ill explain... when I started Mabinogi way back in the beginning... AP was hard to come by! You had to wait a full month for rebirth, you had just the AP from leveling up. It took FOREVER to build higher level skills to mastery! But today, the game is far different! when the talent system was initiated and you logged in.. you got hit with a hundred completion pics and by its end you had anywhere between 300 and 600 AP sitting in your storage waiting to be allocated! At every turn after this Talent upgrade system, you clear a goal marker and gain another 40 to 60 AP as you "savvy" up! I currently have over 200 AP I cant even spend yet because I am not near leveling even my most expensive skill, and with skills like Lightning Rod I am spending 60 AP a level and up when I finally clear the requirements! we may be solo players at heart.. but when we enter a guild challenge.. and take on a dragon.. or other large foe.... We are doing that as a team! ...and we fail or succeed by that measure. when you take damage on an epic scale and need to run or fall and fly your feather banner and wait for whatever knocked you out to walk away so you can be revived... or manage to actually run "deadly" off to a safe area away from immediate harm... Healing yourself will kill your stamina and make you completely useless to the team. This is when someone else is most needed... and even the most basic heal used on others helps and saves stamina for swinging swords or shooting arrows! (the latter of those.. actually burns alot of stamina.. so.. every point counts in reserve!) if everyone on the team had at least a level F heal.. and when not fighting.. simply clicked a fellow members back to full.. we would fair far better against unimaginable odds in guild battles of any measure. Saving both stamina.. and keeping the stronger of us full to go headlong back into the frey and succeed for the prestige of the entire guild! Even healing from a close distance as the big hitters swing in button mashing frenzy under the belly of the beast just to give them the added time to knock down the millions of HP such a creature holds makes all the difference in the world! Without this support.. all we will be doing for the hour is running around "feathering" each other and drinking potions till we go into potion poisoned status... That, is never a great idea! It only costs a small amount of AP to simply gain the ability... and not very much in the way of AP and time to level it up if you feel 10HP a click is just not effective. But the value to the fellow members is far greater than the small AP sacrifice you have to make. So... please.. for the sake of us fallen warriors who just sit helplessly on the sidelines trying to recover stamina. Get heal... and have 20 feathers in your inventory before you enter the frey! The life you save.. may not be your own!

I completely agree with you that we need more people who can heal, but I have to remind you that you don't always have a chance to stop and heal yourself or someone else. There will be times where you will need immediate health whether it be due to a swarm of enemies or a powerful DoT (Damage over Time) effect. Be sure to always carry potions on you for emergencies. There's also a hidden skill called Study: Potion Lore, it decreases the rate at which you get potion poisoned and has a chance to improve potion recovery on you, up to 250% at r1.
Now, besides Healing and Potions, there are other ways to restore health: Fantastic Chorus, Party Heal, Life Drain, and Shield of Trust.
As a bard, I love the Life Anthem part of Fantastic Chorus. Fantastic Chorus is a skill which creates one of two zones at your character's feet dependent on which bard skill you use after activating it. At r1, Life Chorus restores 3 points of Health, Mana, and Stamina per second to all party members inside the circle. This makes it an amazing support skill for everyone from warriors to archers to mages and everyone in between.
For the more magically oriented, there's the Party Heal skill. It requires a healing wand to use, but it can heal all allies in range for a maximum base of 160 health plus the magic attack modifier. The mastery skill gives a +20% bonus to all healing spells and an effect that heals wounds for 10% of the heal done. Anyone who chooses to wield this powerful skill should be prepared to play support the entire battle.
Even if you aren't an alchemist, I would highly recommend Life Drain. It's a skill that can only be obtained after completing a certain quest in G9 so it may take some time to get. Life drain is a skill in which you steal health from an enemy and damage them with a knockback. Life drain has a maximum base absorption of 450 health plus 35% of your missing health. This is not an instantaneous skill so make sure your draining isn't disrupted by adds.
The final option is Shield of Trust. Now I know, a lot of people still haven't completed G19 and as a result, can't rank their Crusader skills up, but this is one skill that has a massive amount of utility both solo and in a party. The skill itself won't be able to do any healing by itself, as it can only add defense and provide a knockdown immunity and slight stun immunity buff, but that can be remedied with subskills. The specific subskill I'm referring to is Healing Hands, which, at the maximum level, can heal for 210 health on use. Honestly, ranking this skill and subskill solely for this purpose is silly due to the time it takes, but if you slowly work on ranking them for Apostle raids, it will work in the end. After a one-second chargeup and 26 mana and stamina at r1 Shield of Trust, you can heal you and two nearby allies in a pinch.

YES! all great alternatives... having any of those is as much a help as a simple heal spell for sure... Just my observation from being on the battle field... and I thought it needed to be addressed so we can work more fluidly together more against dragons than anything else.. as that is where I see the most sidelined members and fallen friends.

After a one-second chargeup and 26 mana and stamina at r1 Shield of Trust, you can heal you and two nearby allies in a pinch. The first sentence always get me, I remember at the last two white dragon raid, I have a hard time getting people to heal simply we have been out damaged by annoying infinite spawned Snow Orge (my hatred for them is growing inside me). Healing next to an ally is like an archer standing next to a warrior, Never do that, it is due the the ridiculous AI of aggressive raid boss minions. I lost count of how many time I have been hunted down from one of those wild things. Always leave some space for the warrior/tank, but do not stray from the formation, since it needed everyone cooperation at hand to defeat the raid boss. It requires high level of teamwork and coordination. all of the skill you mention take ALOT OF TIME to actually acquire your "needed healing skill", some people don't have enough time to acquired those skill before the white dragon raid. Life drain is just one annoying train ride(if you are a rookie, this also may be challenging since you can change storyline from Duncan.) Fantastic chorus require large investment in bard. And the shield of trust... I don't know, but from what I heard, G19 is hard and I would not recommend for beginners to do it based on veteran said. (Except Party Heal) Party heal is the MOST USEFUL AND THE EASIEST TO ACQUIRE FROM HEALING since party healing LITERALLY HEAL EVERYONE IN YOUR PARTY, IT IS VERY USEFUL IN RAIDS AND PARTY(obviously). It is the most simplest healing skill in the game. Just grab a healing wand, cast heal, and heal and BOOM, PARTY HEAL. I highly, highly recommended getting this skill for raiding and for party, trust me, you won't regret it. No like seriously, you can just stand there and heal everyone until you runout of mana

yes.. a second reply detailing the many alternatives to healing... but after I had a day to ponder the original detailing I came to the conclusion that.. having heal as a skill.. for others who may not have the time or AP to build up their healing alternatives is a good idea... and actually.. on the field I see many side standers regaining their composure.. and I heal them while I am also regaining mine.. heal at level F is simply 1 to 2 AP... that's not a high price to pay to have a support skill at the ready for your fellow guildmember... we are a team after all.. not a collection of solo players who should all just find their own way to heal during a dragon battle... and if you think you wont have the chance to simply click heal... how would one have the chance to play a song.. trigger a radius skill and hope the fellow guildmember is in range.. I am not saying abandon all other healing options.. I am saying have the most BASIC one available.. not for you.. but for the lower level guildmembers who may have entered the battle ill equipped. or for the seasoned ones who burned through their MP and Stamina causing massive damage to the dragon... and simply have nothing left to fire a great healing spell or song with... leaving all healing up to the party healer in support.. when they are on the total opposite side of the dragon.. is a gaurenteed fall for the lone deadly running for his life... potions.. yes.. they help.. but do we want members in potion poison limited in their skill access when e could have simply been close enough to heal them back to life?
now again. I am a traditionally solo player.. so for the most part.. barring the limitations of dragon raids and no pet access.. I can handle my self if I have to.. but being part of a greater collective.. who should all have gotten heal when the began at lvl 0 and seeing a lack luster use of it in a dragon raid... made me want to comment on it... its just a simple skill.. but in that field of battle.. helps your friends and guildmembers more than apparently you know. not everyone can complete the Divine knights series and open up their skills... not evryone has the AP to just walk away from their current goals to level up bard... and not everyone can master party healing as that skill is a long road of healing practice.. but everyone can buy lvl F heal.. and forget about it... but have it handy if they find themselves next to a low HP friend who is ironically HEALING THEM, they can return the favor and save that guy from burning his stamina to zero on himself.

@xblade
I'm well aware of the time and AP investment that goes into all of the skill that I mentioned, I do have all of them decently ranked after all, but I believe that health is the most important stat bar in Mabinogi. No mana? That's fine, just wait a while and do something else like physical combat. No stamina? That's fine, just wait a while and do something else like magical combat. No health? Well, you can't do anything because you're dead.
I'm not saying that you need to rank all of them up in one night, I'm saying that they're all worth looking into. I can't tell you how many times that small chance of increased potion recovery carried me through, how many times Fantastic Chorus recovered my health, mana, and stamina when they were all low, how many times my low-ranked party heal kept my party alive at the edge, how many times life drain brought me out of deadly or near death quickly enough to save my life, how many times that small health bonus from Healing Hands left me with just enough to keep going.
But at the very heart of things, you need Heal. Heal is the one skill that doesn't require anything special. Just rebirth to cleric or buy the book for 9,800 and you have 30-50 health that you can restore for the cost of 12 mana. This skill is the one you would be using the most and this is the skill you should be using the most. Everything that I mentioned are alternatives to the previous suggestion that everyone should get Heal, they're all supplements to it. Fantastic Chorus is a powerful support skill, as is Party Heal and Shield of Trust with Healing Hands. Life Drain is the only offensive skill that I mentioned that is used to help yourself, but even then it can be used for support: healing yourself so you can continue healing others or using the slowing and knockback to keep an enemy off an ally.
As a side note, I think we need to talk about how we function as a team during raids. I think I'll need to write a dragon raid guide later.

first the side thought, yes... a tactical battle plan universally understood by the team is a true advantage! I cannot lie and am actually pondering a potential tactics plan currently. with a general map of the dragon... suggested tactics for white and black battles... to be pondered by the guild as possible measures in upcoming runs.
but on to your continued arguing of the basic point I am trying to make... all your suggestions... are great... but we are a guild of low level and high level people.. some who are seasoned players of this and other games.. some who are simply here for the pretty dresses or cartoon heads and haven't really thought through stats or battling million point creatures in a team engagement. I myself am at a fairly high HP level.. with a good amount of stamina... I have both physical and magical attack power.. my primarys in both are mastered! and the support skills that accompany them are also mastered... I am not saying I need this per-say.. for you all to heal me personally at every turn.. but.. I AM saying.. spend 3 AP and get heal! if you can't afford to spend that small amount to help someone in need on the fly.. I got AP coupons! I will gladly give you 20 coupons for the initial skill! I have been in alot of dragon raids.. I see many people running off at 10 HP and either just giving up.. or being foolish and running back in to die in a heart beat! I also see people regaining their composure and NOT helping out the closest person who is at 1 HP! ...in general dragon raids AND in our own guild! You talk about being a singularly well rounded character yet seem to miss being able to simply heal your fellow guildmember in a raid? The most basic form of team play you can get? If we can't rely on our members to help the whole unit succeed? then are we really a team.. or just a collection of snobs who all want to show off how powerful we are at the expense of watching our less powerful fall and fly the feather or revive at 10hp with 90% serious wounds.. and spend the rest of the battle using first aid on themselves and trying to heal up on their own when another member is literally standing 5 meters away at low health but more equipped to handle their own plight. I am not saying you are wrong.. but you are not 100% right either. Without battle plan fully implemented we are all running around hacking and slashing with reckless abandon... so having healers at every turn.. even if they only give 10 pts per grace... is enough to lift someone to health in an emergency... now... if you want to run one with a limited member invitation.. only the strongest.. with a healthy battle plan and dischord in use... I would not only accept that challenge but also accept the terms of the engagement. Delegated healers... point... support... with a small force of selected members.. all attacking their designated targets ad then swarming the fully unprotected dragon after the army was decimated... we would not only reign supreme.. we would be the best guild in mabi! The video would be worth saving! It would be the SOCOM of the mabi world! But in general raid.. we invite all levels to join the gild and try their best... to coin the most played out phrase in the military world.. we are only as strong as our weakest link.. lets help those links be their best... have heal.. teach them to heal.. and support when not engaged in combat... all the skills in the word are useless if you forgot your potions in your pet! HA!

I did seem to miss your approval for heal... sorry. in my heated reaction to the beginning I failed to read further and see your insightful comments on acquiring heal as a side solution to the issue... pleas accept my apology for ranting on the same side of the topic as if you were in full disagreement.. HA! I just want the whole team to be successful... and at times my passion gets the better of me and I am fast to type a rebutt to defend my case...
