This Story Takes Place In A Fictional World Where The Land Bares No Oil Or Fossil Fuels. As Such, Humans Have Developed Their Society Around Their One Special Power. The Ability To Manipulate And Empower The Mineral Quartz. Using This Gift Of Magic, They Are Able To Use The Earth's Supply Of Quartz For A Great Many Uses, Including Creating Light, Powering Mechanisms And Machines, To Controlling Giants Mecha Known As "Golems". The Story Revolves Around Rygart Arrow, A Young Man Who Was Born With The One In A Million Chance Of Not Being Able To Use Magic And Utilize Quartz. Now The Continents Three Countries Are Locked In War With Rygart's Home And Friends Caught In The Middle. However, Without The Ability To Use The Quarts In The Mecha Or Even Simple Weapons, Rygart's Only Option Is To Pilot The Ancient Golem Found Beneath The Earth's Surface, A Golem Constructed Without Quartz Weapons That Only He Can Pilot.
And Now For My Own Words...
I'm Going To Be Honest. When I First Saw This Anime, I Thought That It Would Be The Typical "Only You Can Pilot This Awesome Weapon And Save The World" Plot. And It Is, To A Point. However, The Way That They Tell The Story And How They Put The Emotions And Detail Into Each Character Really Made This An Enjoyable Show. The Anime Series Was Comprised Of 6 (As Of Right Now, More May Come Later, Though I Doubt It) Separate 50-60 Minute Long Films With Great Art And Attention To Detail. Somewhere Online I heard The Phrase "Explosions Are Good, But They Get In The Way". This Phrase Could Not Be More True For Broken Blade. The Fact That The Golems Run Via The Manipulation Of The Quartz Ligaments Throughout The Mecha, Means That An Explosion On Impact Or Death Is Nearly Impossible, Leaving You To View All Of The Detailed Experience Of The Action. Also, I Found That The Combat Itself Was Very Well Done In Regards That Nothing Was Paced Too Quickly Or Too Extravagantly. The Story Isn't All Too Complicated Or Hard To Follow For The Most Part, However, There Do Seem To Be An Assortment Of Various Sub-Plots And Conspiracy Going On In The Background. From What I Have Heard, The Film Series Also Sticks Very Closely To The Events In The Parent Manga Series With The Exception of The Ending, Or Lack Thereof.
I Give This Series A Solid 6/10.
So Much Love And Only An 6 You Say? Well, This Is Due To The Fact That The Series Is Yet Uncompleted After 4 Years Since The Release Of The 6th Film In 2011. In Short, As Fantastic As Some Of Them May Be, An Incomplete Or Unfinished Series Can't Expect To Be Given A Top Score.
