So many of you know I started doing Mage on my Giant and I get a lot of criticism because of it.
I've mastered Warrior, Knight, Fighter and realized I was lacking in the range department since Javelins suck as a main weapon and Alchemy is much too costly and Ninja seems boring.. so I went Mage.
So yeah, I know Giants have a longer casting time and use more Mana to cast spells. However with Meditation, that's not much of a problem. I'd suggest mastering Shield and Heavy Armor Mastery before trying to go Mage.
Don't be afraid to smack mobs with your wand or staff!
I use smash when mobs are using defense.
I use Shockwave as a Windmill substitute (trust me, Shockwave refreshes fast)
Counterattack is your friend. Usually I counter, then lightning bolt.
When you fight big bosses, I suggest using Demigod just for its insane Mana regeneration.
I highly recommend using the Merlin Knuckles (though I haven't been able to get my hands on a pair..)
I mainly use a Hermit Staff and sometimes a Fire Savage Wand.
For bolt magic, make sure you have plenty of time to cast it and hope for a crit .
For intermediate magic, use Fireball if you have Snap Cast. If you don't have it, make sure you have plenty of time to cast it.
Giants have a higher chance of being aggro'd so you may be attacked while trying to cast.
Thunder is my favorite, I use it a lot.
If you have a strong secondary weapon, Ice Spear is the best choice. You can freeze them with Ice Spear, then Smash to take out huge chunks of health.
For advanced magic, Lightning Rod is awesome for taking out rows of mobs, it works especially well after you knock a mob down.
Hail Storm is a lot like Wind-Guard in terms of you not being able to move, though you should make sure you have enough Mana to use it because you can't cast Inspiration during Hail Storm. But unlike Wind-Guard, you won't have added Defense and Protection.
Meteor Strike should only be used as a 'Hail Mary'
In other words, use it wisely or as a last resort.
Now, on to skills other than Magic that can help you be a Giant Mage.
Daemon of Physis has a skill that gives you a sharp boost when in transformation,
This skill is called 'Spell of Physis' and at Rank 1, it adds 200 INT and 200 MP to your base stats.
Other skills to rank are Composing and Music Knowledge. Those give a lot of INT and gains the same amount of INT as other races do, unlike Magic skills.
You should also train Healing and Party Healing. Use Party Healing instead of normal Healing when you want to heal yourself. Normal Healing takes both Stamina AND Mana when you try to heal yourself.
Now then if you have anything to ask me about being a Giant Mage, I'll leave this as a Q&A so ask away!
