Welcome To The "Not Dead Yet Battlefront"! .. Or Is It The "Afterlife Battlefront"? The "Barnacle Battlefront"? Whatever You Call It, This School Is Certainly Far From Normal. This School Exists In A Sort Of Limbo Between One Life And The Next, Where No One Can Die (Though They Still Feel the Full Force Of The Pain), Or Get Sick, In An Effort To Give The Troubled Young People Who Died Horrible, Unfulfilled Lives, A Chance To Relive Their Youth And Find Happiness. Otonashi Woke Up In This School With No Memory Of Who He Is Or Of His Own Past Life. After Being Assaulted By A Young Silvery Haired Girl Dubbed "Angel" (Or "Tenshi" In The Japanese Version), Otonashi Joins Up With The "Ever Changing Name Battlefront" (Rather, That's What I Call Them), A Group Of Students Who Have Regained Their Memories Of Their Past Miserable Lives And Fight Together Against Angel In An Effort To Deny And Eventually Punish God Himself For The Lives They Suffered. Yuri, The Spunky And Rather Harsh Leader Of This Group, Guides The Team Through Battles, Tests, And Often Ridiculous Plans In An Effort To Hinder Angel And Find Their Way To God. Certainly Not Everything Is As It Appears. Exactly Who Is This Angel?

This Anime Fixes To Merge A Very Fulfilling Blend Of Fun, Excitement, Humor, Drama, Love, Action, And Even Tragedy In A Way I Have Seen So Rarely In Anime. The Story Starts Off Kind-of Quirky And Hard To Take Serious, But At The Drop Of A Hat, Can Turn Serious And Leave You Thinking. Often I Have Found Myself Going From Laughing My Ass Off To Almost Crying (A Hard Thing To Get Me To Do, I Assure You) Within Minutes. Each Character Has Their Own Haunting Past That Drives Their Actions. Personally, I Would Have Enjoyed Learning More About Each Of the Character Then What Was Shown (What The Hell Is T.K.'s Deal?!?!) However, I Can Understand How That Was Avoided Due To The 13 Episode Length Of The Series. The Animation Is Very Good And The Soundtrack Was So Good, I Even Went As Far As To Track Down And Download Every Girls Dead Monster Song. The Detail That The Animators Put Into Each And Every Weapon Used in the Series Is Certainly Impressive Considering That They Could Have Easily Went With Generic Weapon Styles And Still Had A Great Show. Having Only Seen the English Dub Of This Anime, I Cant Give An Accurate Review On It;s Quality, However, For The Most Part It Seemed Pretty Good, With The Exception Of Some Places Where It Could Have Been Better. I'm Sure My Slimey Partner In This Co-op Review Can Give You A Description On The Japanese Dub's Quality. Some Of The Backstories For The Characters Can Hit A Little Close To Home For Viewers Who May Have Troubling Pasts Of Their Own (Ms Slimey And Myself Included), However, I Feel That This Adds A Relatable Aspect To The Anime That Can Be Seen As To Add To The Enjoyment. Simply Put, I Love This Anime. My Favorite Character Is Easily Iwasawa.
My Rating: A Solid 9/10

Angel Beats! was an anime my friend Laurayne told me to check out, i have to say i'm glad that i did. "Written by Slimeyy"
Like action? Or romance? What about fantasy? Drama? Comedy? Horror?
Every person has a unique taste in everything. When it comes to anime, you can choose as you want. The possibilities are almost endless!
Angel Beats has something for almost any taste and genre. It’s filled with action, romance, comedy, drama and more. It has a lot of different characters, the animation is beautiful, the music is brilliant and the story is interesting.
This series has many strong points. It takes the typical «souls that cannot rest because of their former lives» and instead of making a series taking place on earth with psychics and such, it’s a story gathering the souls in a single place and following their fight against the universe.
Anime that try to include a wide spectrum of genres often ends up messy and unfinished. That’s not the case with this one. While showing emotional and sad scenes, it mixes in a lot of comedy in between the heartbreak, this without ruining the moment.
The animation in this series is quite detailed and beautiful. The school campus looks good and the scenery is close to flawless. The character designs are wide and different for every character. It doesn't rely on sex-appeal or more characters, which is refreshing. The amount of detail put in the weapons and instruments is impressive. If you’re knowledgeable with these kind of things, you can clearly see what model, brand and such the different items are. The violence is dramatic, but not «gory» or noticeably special.
The action scenes does not disappoint as well. It gets your blood pumping, and that’s all it takes for a viewer to want to see more.
The series has it’s own band called "Girls Dead Monster" The amount of detail put into their performances is incredible. If you watch closely, you can see that the guitarist holds the correct chords, the drummer hits the right drums and the bassist plays as if it was a real performance. Now THAT is amazing since anime often just lets the guitarists hand slide up and down the neck of the guitar and so forth.
The musical score includes everything from quick and funny piano pieces to blood rushing and emotional orchestra.
The opening theme "My Soul, Your Beats!" is a beautiful piano song with a quick pace and fitting lyrics.
The ending theme "Brave Song" is a more typical calming song which fits well in after action scenes or emotional moments.
The one flaw I can find about Angel Beats is that it has a too wide cast for a 13 episode series where background stories and motives is what makes the character. You only get to know the story of a few chosen characters, sometimes even new characters that enter along the way of the story. There were many characters I wanted to know more about, but never got to.
The series finishes off with a satisfying yet heartbreaking final episode.
It may have a few other minor flaws, but all the brilliance of the series makes them irrelevant.
Overall, this anime is one for all tastes, and it will have you crying and laughing at the same time. You will start thinking about your own life in comparison to the pasts of the members of the Battlefront and get caught in deep thought. It did turn into one of my favorites the moment It ended, made me cry because it was so heartbreaking,
i want to thank Laurayne recommending Angel Beats to me!
